What Are The Functional Yarns?

Unlike other threads, functional yarns are made with consideration to the yarn’s properties. We’ll analyze the various functional yarns and their uses.

High Tenacity Filament

Polyster high tenacity filament yarns, Nylon6.6, Nylon6, and core spun yarns, Polyster FDY filament yarns are preeminent in strength. Such high tenacity filaments are vital for the production of heavy duty industrial ropes adopted in the construction and shipping industries. The ropes are guaranteed not to break even under extremely heavy weight.

Flame Retardant Yarn

Flame Retardant Yarn is applied in industries with high fire hazards. An example is in the construction of oil refineries and power plants. Such yarn is also integrated into the uniforms of military and police officers. In the event of any fire, the yarn would slow the fire's spread, allowing for a safer exit.

Anti-Ultraviolet (Anti-UV) Yarn

With the changing of the world’s climates, the risk of sun exposure increases and the Anti-UV yarn protects from that sores sunlight. This yarn is perfect for any outdoor use.

Fiber with Anti-UV Properties

Camping tents made with Anti-UV capability yarns can provide protection against harmful sun rays. The yarn has the ability to block a good part of UV radiation. This prevents sunburns and minimizes skin damage. Furthermore, it is also found in some outdoor garments, such as hiking shirts, to shield the users in prolonged sun exposure.

Antibacterial Yarn

Most revolutionary for the medical and hygiene industries, antibacterial yarns can stop bacterial growth with medical uniforms. This is necessary to lower the cross-infection risk in hospitals. Also, in everyday life, it can be integrated in socks to combat foot odor from bacteria. The yarn works by either destroying the bacteria or suppressing their growth, thus maintaining the fabric for a longer period of time.

Functional yarns serve many purposes across many industries.

In the clothing and textile industry: These specialized yarns with their flame-retardant capabilities and high tenacity are used in police and military uniforms. In the case of hygiene oriented medical uniforms, functional yarns with antibacterial capabilities are used.

With regards to functional outwear: High tenacity and anti-UV yarns are used to make tents, sleeping bags, climbing ropes, and parachute cords. These specialized yarns provide better protection and durability for the users against the elements.

In the transportation and industrial divisions: Car interiors, seat belts, and airbags use functional yarns. For the seat belts, high tenacity yarns are used in order to restrain the passengers securely during a sudden stop, in the airbags, the right type of yarn is needed in order for the airbag to deploy and provide protection for the passengers.

In the Special Protection Areas : For the military and medicine, the functional yarns gloves and clothing serve as a protective layer. These protective items are made effective by the use of flame-retardant, high-tenacity, and antibacterial yarns.
